Worcester County Sheriff K9 Nikita to be featured on PBS show

Every day, Nikita gets to work by checking the mail. He moves quickly, inspecting each letter for any unusual smells — ones that indicate the presence of drugs. And then he tells his partner, Lt. Thomas Chabot, which are suspect.

According to Worcester County Sheriff Lew Evangelidis, Nikita is one of the best in the state at sniffing out drugs.

It’s impressive, because Nikita, a Puerto Rican native, started his life homeless.

And also because he’s a dog.

AREA– Sheriff Lewis G. Evangelidis’ gave out 400 Coat to the  Fitchburg Cleghorn  Neighborhood Center, Our Father’s House in Fitchburg and the Spanish American Center in Leominster on Tuesday. For many years he has bee collecting coats for his coats drive and this year he gave out over 3, 000 of them.

On Thursday afternoon, 10 Crocker Elementary School students tried their hardest to beat up Fitchburg Police Officer Ron L’Ecuyer. Though he was covered in padding, L’Ecuyer was proud to say he could feel the students’ hits.

An hour later, the students were proud graduates from the radKIDS training program, which teaches children how to handle threatening situations.
